Kedarnath. How to plan Kedarnath Trip ( With proper itinerary )

So I planned this trip with my other two friends. Sandhya & Pratibha. We started our journey from Chandigarh ISBT at 6.00 pm on 28th Oct 2021, It was a bit of a smoky and cold evening in Chandigarh. Also with was a surprise trip for my friends. I told them that we are going for a trek in Uttrakhand. At midnight we reached Haridwar, From Haridwar, we took the bus for Sonprayag at 4.00 am. Let me tell you this, Sonprayag is the last Drop-off point Kedarnath. We reached Sonprayag in the afternoon by 3.00 pm on 29th Oct 2021.

So from here, our real journey starts for Kedarnath Yatra. After reaching Sonprayag, we went to the Gaurikund base village of Kedarnath. You can reach Gaurikund by hiring a shared taxi which will cost you 30 ₹ in the daytime, 50 ₹ after 10.00 pm.

We were at Gaurikund by 3:45 pm, the distance between Sonprayag & Gaurikund is 6 Kms. So this was our resting time because we were continuously for 10 hours. Here we rented a small shared hotel room for our rest and refreshment. Costing of this room was 1500 ₹ for one night, and we were three.

The next day morning we started our Yatra at morning 5.00 am. The Distance between Gaurikund and Kedarnath is 16.00 Kms, It took us 9 hours to reach our final destination.

Here there is the twist, you will come across many beautiful scenic spots, your soul will keep asking you to click photos and videos. while doing this activity, we met a new travel friend from Mumbai, Name - Mehul Thakkar, by professional Locomotive Engineer in Indian Railway.

Now from here, we got another friend who joined. Based on my Strength, I could have finished a 16.00 Kms stretch within 5 hours, but because of Mehul, it took more than 11.00 hours. The last 2.5 Kms for Mehul Were very tough, So he hired a horse for the last patch which is tough. Finally, we reached 4.30 pm and it was a life-changing experience.

We did our Kedarnath Baba Darshan at 5:30 pm after taking a rest, We attended Aarti at 6:15 pm, the Same day after aarti we had to start our descend journey towards Gaurikund, again we had our priorities.

We started our descend journey at 8.00 pm, we had parathas and tea. There was one tragic incident while returning. Mehul lost his phone, he realized the same after we came 1 km down from the last resting point. Again I started going back and finally found his phone on the bench where we were resting. He was very tense because being a train driver he gets all schedule on his phone. While returning his phone there was calmness on his face.

After this incident again we started to descend and it was 3.00 am at midnight, the temperature was almost -3 degrees. All of us were so much tired because almost we covered 32 km in 23 hours.

5:00 am we reached Gaurikund, after collecting our bags, we hired a shared taxi for Sonprayag 50 ₹ each, from Sonprayag bus for Haridwar by 1:30 pm we all reached Haridwar, From here we started our journey back to home Chandigarh with happy Moments.

Trip travel itinerary & expenses.

1) Bus From Chandigarh to Haridwar: 290 ₹ to 320 ₹ depending on roadways. ( Good Bus frequency ). From Delhi ( Kashmiri Gate ISBT ) To Haridwar: 346 ₹

2) Bus From Haridwar to Sonprayag: Between 420 ₹ to 450₹

Note: If you are booking the same ticket fare will be between 500 ₹ to 600 ₹

3) Sonprayag To Gaurikund: 30 ₹ each shared taxi

note: If it is after 10:00 pm then 50 ₹ each.

Buses for Haridwar are running with a good frequency of 1 hr from Chandigarh and Delhi. But for Sonprayag from Haridwar frequency is very less. Timing Between 4.00 am to 5.30 am max. after that no buses for Sonprayag.
